After 22 Years of Waiting: Tinu's Testimony of Faith and Hope
A remarkable personal journey through infertility, miscarriage medical treatment, and renewed hope before motherhood at 48
When Tinu married in 1975, she looked forward to the joy of motherhood. Instead, she began a journey that would last 22 years, taking her through medical treatments across several countries, repeated disappointments, miscarriage and immense emotional pressure.
The years were particularly difficult because of the judgement she faced from others. Despite the love and support of her husband, she received hurtful messages questioning her place in the marriage. At times, the pain became so overwhelming that she contemplated leaving the home they had built together.
In 1995, after two decades of waiting, Tinu experienced a profound moment of despair while living in London. Encouraged by her pastor, she attended a church service that evening, where messages about God’s faithfulness renewed her hope and strengthened her resolve to continue trusting Him.
Some months later, during a visit to the United States, Tinu began feeling unwell. At 47, she initially attributed her symptoms to other possible health conditions. A medical consultation brought unexpected news: she was pregnant.
On 2 April 1998, at the age of 48, Tinu welcomed her daughter after 22 years of waiting. Among the names she gave her was Oluwapamilerin, meaning God has made me laugh, reflecting the joy she experienced after so many years of longing.
Tinu’s testimony speaks of perseverance through disappointment, the sustaining power of faith and the importance of compassionate support during difficult seasons. Her experience is deeply personal, but her story offers encouragement to others navigating uncertainty and prolonged waiting.
